How to Properly Arrange a Small Kitchen

Small-apartment housing is an actual problem for residents of modern megacities, because living space of more than 60 square meters is affordable to not everyone, even on rent. And overall, living in small studios has become a fashionable trend in recent times. In this article, we will tell you how to properly optimize space on the kitchen, if in your case its area does not exceed 5-6 square meters.

Use Space Wisely

First, you need to zone the space. Designate the main part of the room for installing essential kitchen appliances, while the dining area can be moved to the living room or another room if necessary — a dining table on a small kitchen will consume a large portion of space, and we don’t need that.

To visually enlarge the room, expand the door frame or even completely redesign it into an arch — this option suits those who haven’t yet moved into the apartment and are currently renovating. Another option — combine the kitchen with the living room, creating one large studio. Visually, this move significantly increases space and adds originality to the apartment.

Replace Kitchen Appliances with a Multicooker

It may seem like an odd suggestion, but don’t jump to conclusions. One good multicooker can replace a pot, a frying pan, and even partially a oven. In multicookers, you can boil, fry, braise, simmer, reheat, and so on. This is an excellent kitchen appliance for small apartments, which will allow you to significantly save space.

The main rule — do not economize on a multicooker. Once it becomes your primary cooking device and replaces all other kitchen appliances, choose a model as high-quality as possible with a 5-6 liter pot, so that food will consistently suffice for all family members.

Utilize the Windowsill

In a small apartment, everything must have a purpose. A windowsill that stands idle serves no purpose — fix that. Use the windowsill to place kitchenware, dishes, mugs. You can simply decorate it with flowers, but this will deprive you of some valuable space that you could turn into a work surface. In modern design solutions, it is often seen that the windowsill is used as a countertop — and this does happen.

You can transform the windowsill into a bar counter, a work zone, or even a dining table. In a certain sense, this is even romantic — enjoying your breakfast while admiring beautiful city or natural landscapes.

Use Built-in Appliances

To avoid cluttering the space, instead of traditional cabinets, use built-in appliances — place a dishwasher, washing machine, or oven directly under the countertop, instead of a regular cabinet.

In modern designs, built-in refrigerators with a small internal capacity — 40-50 liters — are often used. For one person, this is sufficient, and the space-saving effect is simply enormous.

That’s all. We hope these tips will help you properly arrange a small kitchen and make it more stylish.
