The term "metal structures" encompasses a large number of parts and products of various purposes. Some are used for construction, others for advertising installation, and others in machinery manufacturing. For a long time, cost calculation and factors affecting the final price were considered commercial secrets. Today, the calculation methodology is more transparent. Cost of manufacturing metal structures equals the sum of overheads, taxes, materials, project documentation development, logistics, as well as labor costs for hired employees.

Cost per ton of metal structures

For convenience, we will take construction metal structures as the object of analysis. This group includes parts and products that, when assembled, form the complete frame of a building or its separate components (roof, walls, trusses, floors, etc.). Such structures are manufactured only in specialized production facilities. Metal profiles undergo several processing stages in equipped workshops:

  • production of blanks;
  • turning, drilling, milling operations;
  • assembly and welding of structural nodes;
  • sandblasting, degreasing and other preparation for painting;
  • primer and color coating.

When the metal structure is ready, it is sent for acceptance and testing, and then undergoes packaging and shipping. The exact number of operations performed on the future product depends on its complexity and the material used as the base. Accordingly, different amounts of time are required to manufacture various metal structures, which also affects the difference in shipping prices.

Basis for calculations

Working drawings KMD are prepared for manufacturing metal structures. They have specific requirements outlined in SNiP II-23-81, GOST 23118-2012, and other regulatory documents. In particular, it is established that technical documentation for manufacturing construction items from metal profiles must include the following information:

  • mark and grade of the steel used;
  • optimal welding method;
  • recommendations for material use.

All of this becomes the basis for calculating the cost of metal structures.

Budget components

When talking about manufacturing and installing metal structures, it is possible to see that the final price consists of the following variables.

  1. Designing KMD drawings — 3 to 5% of the total budget.
  2. Cost of metal — 60-70%.
  3. Cost of workshop work — 15 to 20% of the final price.
  4. Transportation costs for delivery — 3 to 7%.
  5. Installation cost — 10-15% of the total budget.

Of course, the presented calculations are approximate. They are provided to give an understanding of the pricing principles in the field of manufacturing items from metal profiles.
