The existence of modern humanity is inseparably linked to various electrical appliances. A proper level of comfortable living can be ensured with a reliable source of electricity. In areas and regions with unstable power supply, this function is performed by a generator.
The main task of this device is to convert mechanical energy into electric current. Before purchasing, specialists recommend becoming familiar with its main types to choose the optimal option.
Classification criteria
There are several main parameters by which generator types are determined.
By type of fuel consumed
-
Operating on gasoline. These are low-power generators, typically designed for no more than 4,000 hours. Their main advantages — lightweight, compact size, affordable cost.
-
On diesel fuel. A diesel station can operate continuously for up to 5,000 hours. Therefore, it can serve as the main power source at a dacha or in a remote area without electrical connections. The main advantage of diesel is low fuel consumption.
-
Gas installations. These are the most expensive among other analogs. This is due to several reasons: silent operation of the station, environmental safety, low cost of fuel.
By mode of operation principle
According to this criterion, generators are divided into synchronous and asynchronous.
A synchronous device can operate without interruption for up to 12 hours. Therefore, they are often used to power suburban homes and dachas. The main advantage of such equipment — high resistance to sudden loads. Among the disadvantages of the equipment are:
-
quick clogging of machine parts;
-
prone to corrosion damage;
-
noise during operation.
Models of asynchronous generators are protected from sudden voltage fluctuations. This allows using them to operate sensitive electrical appliances such as computers, refrigerators, televisions, washing machines. Additional advantages of such an aggregate:
-
does not require air cooling;
-
protected from dust and moisture;
-
almost silent during operation;
-
compact dimensions and lightweight;
-
equipped with a reliable ignition system;
-
characterized by a long operating period.
Control methods
After purchasing an electricity source, it must be properly installed, selecting one of the control modes.
-
Manual. Performed using a remote control with a range of up to 25 meters.
-
Automatic. Used for high-class installations. Requires a special control panel.
-
Semi-automatic. Combines manual start and subsequent automatic control.
Small-sized generators can be placed in a ventilated, moisture-free location. For setting up expensive models, an independently standing and properly equipped box is required.
