Which tractor was named the best and what agricultural tires are suitable for it

In late 2019, the international agricultural exhibition Agritechnica took place in Hanover, Germany. The exhibition occurs every two years, and by tradition, it selects the best equipment that helps farmers increase productivity. Therefore, the Agritechnica jury’s recommendations are a reason to order a new tractor or buy agricultural tires with which work will definitely be trouble-free.
To select the most efficient field agricultural tractor for the next couple of years, an international jury of 25 people was assembled. The jury members are experts who annually test new equipment models and get acquainted with innovative technologies. Each expert assigned a score according to their specialization. After the contenders for victory received their well-deserved points, the winner of the title «Tractor of the Year» was determined – Fendt Vario 942.
About the machine
Wide application – the main feature that the German manufacturer sees in the latest generation of the 900-series tractor. The machine is truly versatile: in combination with appropriate agricultural tires, it is suitable for heavy pulling work in the field or forest, as well as for fast cargo transport on asphalt. The versatility of the tractor is also that it allows mounting various types of attached equipment.
Experts who had the opportunity to test the Fendt Vario 942 in practice call it «an uncompromising top model» and «a work of engineering art». The reason is the 9-liter engine with record-breaking maximum power of 415 hp, built on the concept of operation at low RPM. And to ensure farmers use this power without harming the soil, the tractor integrates a tire pressure control system. In combination with this system, it is necessary to operate flotation agricultural tires.
About the tires
In the technical documentation for the Fendt Vario 942 series, it is specified that the front axle of the tractor is standardly equipped with agricultural tire size 650/60 R38. On the rear axle, tires of size 750/70 R44 are used. The choice in both cases is limited. This is due to the massive dimensions and, consequently, the complexity of production.
Agricultural tires 650/60 R38 are available in models Trelleborg TM1060 and Michelin Xeobib. Approximate price – $3000. Size 750/70 R44 (diameter – 2.2 meters) is available in Trelleborg TM1060 and Michelin Xeobib 2. Approximate price – $7500. Tires can be purchased upon request from official distributors.
