Seed Treatment Before Planting

Here comes the happy season for all gardeners. Every season, many of them face the same problem — poor germination of seeds.

To get good sprouts from seeds, gardeners buy the most expensive seeds, leaving large sums of money in stores. But this doesn't work. Sometimes, even expensive seeds have very low germination. Many gardeners, blaming manufacturers, discard such seeds and buy new packages. But in reality, poor germination is not always a sign of low-quality seeds. It turns out, seeds need to be awakened, because they may be in a state of "physiological dormancy".

To awaken seeds before planting, you need to perform the following procedure. Collect melted water from snow or rainwater, then heat it to 70°C. Place the seeds in burlap sacks into a pot with hot water. When the water cools, you can begin planting. After performing this procedure, good germination of seeds is guaranteed, even if their shelf life has long expired.

The best stimulant for good seed germination is warmth. At medium and high temperatures, seeds germinate much faster than at low air temperatures. However, this rule applies only to seeds, not to plants.

Another well-known procedure for improving seed germination is called Stratification. Seeds must first be soaked in warm water, then thoroughly dried. After this, lay the seeds on warm sand for three months. The downside of this procedure is its long duration. But the germination rate after these procedures is excellent, and within three months of this process, the initial growth phases of the plant occur. After planting seeds treated this way, strong plants emerge, resistant to various diseases and pests. However, this procedure is applicable exclusively to vegetable fruit-bearing plants and is absolutely contraindicated for leafy and flowering plants.

Experienced gardeners also recommend awakening seeds using special preparations "Epin" and "Circon". You need to dilute the preparation in water according to instructions and soak the seeds in the resulting solution.

You choose how and what to treat seeds before planting yourself. But awakening seeds is simply necessary, otherwise you won't get a good harvest.
