Adhesive - what is it and why do farmers and gardeners use it

Garden crops need to be sprayed with protective compounds and fertilizers several times during the season. The effect of their action is not always maximal: part of the working solution runs off the leaves onto the ground or evaporates quickly. For what is adhesive needed and how to use it?

Why is adhesive needed

Adhesive is a special surfactant component that is added to any working liquid, for example, to insecticide or fungicide solutions, fertilizers. It increases their adhesion to the leaf surface, reducing liquid consumption. This allows you to save half the cost of plant protection products.

It is better to choose adhesives here from a reliable company, since there is a high risk of encountering a counterfeit or low-quality product in small stores or on markets.

Adhesive in the working solution:

  • Helps to spread droplets, forming a thin, even film. Thanks to this, you can avoid burns that occur under the effect of sunlight penetrating through a drop on the leaf. In addition, spreading helps to evenly distribute the solution and, as a result, more effective action.
  • Keeps liquid on leaves even at steep inclinations. The solution does not run down the leaf surface, but remains on it. Adhesive ensures reliable adhesion of the agents even to waxy and hairy leaves.
  • Increases the duration of action of the solution. The breakdown of the active substance under the influence of oxygen is slowed down by the adhesive. In addition, the main component is not washed away by rain.
  • Improves compatibility of agents. When using fungicide and insecticide in the same solution, you get a stable liquid that retains the properties of the active substances.
  • Reduces evaporation of liquid. The solution remains on the leaf surface for a longer time, and after drying, it remains as a thin film, non-toxic to plants. In addition, during processing, tiny droplets do not bounce off the leaf surface, but remain on it.

Adhesive does not harm plants: it does not hinder their respiration, does not reduce light exposure, does not harm beneficial microorganisms.

How to use adhesive

Before applying the preparation, it is necessary to familiarize oneself with the instructions and choose the appropriate method of use. Adhesive is not toxic to humans, safe for animals, plants, and soil microorganisms. It can be used not only on the above-ground part of plants, but also on seeds, tubers, roots.

Proven preparations: Tandem, Siaivo, Codasid, Trend, Alphalip and others. They are produced in various packaging, satisfying the needs of gardeners and farmers.

Order of preparing the working solution:

  1. The main agent (herbicide, fungicide, insecticide or liquid fertilizer) is diluted in water according to the instructions.
  2. Add adhesive to the prepared solution in the dose appropriate for the amount of liquid.
  3. Use the prepared solution immediately: it is not suitable for storage.

Adhesive must be added to the working solution last, since subsequent addition of water will cause foaming of the liquid.

In the absence of original preparation you can use folk remedies, for example, adding a small amount of liquid soap to the solution. However, such a mixture is less effective, and the resulting protective effect - short-lived.

Adhesives - indispensable tools for farmers and gardeners. They reduce the frequency of treatments and save working solution, increase the effectiveness of main agents and prolong their action on plants. It is necessary to use only high-quality adhesives that do not harm plants and the environment.
