Rolling Lawns for Sports Grounds

The foundation of landscape design — a visually pleasing lawn with velvety, vibrant green grass. At the same time, a lawn serves as the base for sports grounds. Their distinction lies in their ability to withstand regular and aggressive use. Artificial turf is often used as playing surfaces, gradually replacing natural, organic "carpets".

A Lawn with Real Grass

Growing a strong, dense grassy cover is no simple task. Before sowing seeds, the soil must be prepared, and conditions suitable for grass growth must be created. It is drained with gravel, enriched with compost, and substrates are applied. Then, weeds that have sprouted are removed, and unevenness is leveled. Soil compaction cannot be ignored either. Manual rollers are often used.

Following this comes seeding and waiting for 2-3 years. Regular care is necessary for sports natural turf. In addition, "bare spots" may appear. These are usually covered by sowing seeds of meadow oat or perennial ryegrass, which germinate in about a week.

In the end, creating an ideally flat and dense surface is a difficult task. That is why for some time, sports grounds were covered with artificial turf that imitated natural grass cover.

Advantages of Ready-made Lawn

Today, there is no need to go through the complex process of growing seeded grass. The modern solution — ready-made working surfaces in rolls. Turf for competitions and training can be laid quickly and requires less care. Additionally, there is no need for frequent renovations or reseeding to cover "bare spots".

Let us consider the qualities inherent in sports lawn:

  • safety (grass is non-slippery, thus does not cause injuries);
  • cleanliness (in other words, does not retain dust, moisture, or dirt);
  • convenience (the grassy layer does not hinder movement).

Ready-made lawns are grown from specially selected grass mixtures. Thanks to this, the soft cover with real grass blades is resistant to trampling and withstands frost well. It is not afraid of insect or pest attacks. Weeds may appear after several years. Minimal care, ideal appearance, excellent resistance to aggressive impacts.

It is advisable to order sports lawn from manufacturers, for example, you can purchase it here http://mirgazon.ru/catalog/rulonnyj-gazon/sportivnyj/. This way, you will protect yourself from poor-quality products. Ready-made sod layer is a perishable product requiring immediate laying. It "lives" only 2-3 days. Therefore, we recommend contacting manufacturers directly before laying.

Characteristics of Grass in Rolls

Sports and training areas are not only large stadiums. Golf courses, polo fields, tennis courts, children's sports and wellness areas — all of this can be either within city limits or within the property of an individual. If you dream of a sports corner but lack time for grass planting, choose roll lawns. Additionally, you can install a heating system to avoid interrupting play during cold weather.

Care for Roll Lawn

Sports lawns are used on open areas and are subjected to daily wear. They require regular maintenance; otherwise, the lifespan of the green "carpet" will significantly decrease. Mowing the grass should be done approximately every 5 days. At this time, its height should be within 2-3 cm. If there are sparse areas, fast-growing grass mixtures will help.

Weekly Care:

It is not recommended to use a freshly rolled grass surface immediately. The roots of the grass must establish themselves; otherwise, the surface will be uneven and unattractive.

First Week.

Newly rolled turf should be watered daily. To avoid overdoing it, monitor the moisture level. To do this, you can gently lift the roll by the edge — there should be no puddles underneath.

Second Week.

Daily watering is no longer necessary. Watering every other day is sufficient. During this period, the grass is first mowed. Additionally, if the procedure falls during the summer, a complex mineral fertilizer is needed.

Third Week.

Water twice every 7 days. Additionally, during this period, the second mowing is performed.

Fourth Week.

Final stage. The lawn is fully ready for use: you can walk, run, and jump on it. Further maintenance and care will not change significantly. Regular mowing, watering, and feeding the grass are required.

Sports grounds using roll lawns look impeccable. There are no "bare spots" on them; the grass is even and dense. The color is emerald, pleasing to the eye. It is not surprising that it is preferred over artificial analogs.
