TV Selection Tips

When choosing a TV at the Comfy online store, many people get overwhelmed: what size to buy, what about resolution quality, is it worth spending on 8K? Not to mention the significant price range variation, which manufacturers justify with additional features and design specifics. So which TV to choose and what to pay attention to when buying one? Let's try to figure it out.

Screen Size

There’s no rule here: bigger is not necessarily better. You need to consider the distance from which you plan to watch the TV. Manufacturers recommend placing the TV at a distance of +/- 2 screen diagonals from your eyes. That is, if you’re planning to buy a 43-inch screen, you should watch it from 2-2.5 meters. Important point: a 32-inch TV may cost more than a similar larger screen. Pay attention to additional features, sound, and image quality. These are much more important than the TV’s size.

4K — a good choice

4K resolution is one of the most promising today. Such an image significantly surpasses HD and Full HD in quality, yet costs a reasonable amount. The amount of 4K video content is growing daily, so soon you’ll be able to watch your favorite movies and series in high resolution. While newer technologies like 8K exist in TVs, we consider it premature to rush into buying them. The number of 8K videos ranges in the hundreds (mostly referring to YouTube videos). What happens next — only time will tell. 8K will probably eventually replace 4K, but this won’t happen soon.

Contrast Ratio

This parameter is rarely considered when choosing a TV, but it’s important — it directly affects the richness of the displayed image. In simple terms, contrast ratio reflects the difference between the brightest and darkest parts of the image. It is usually expressed as a ratio of 1:1000 and higher. To determine the most comfortable contrast ratio for your eyes, ask the seller to play the same video/movie on different TVs. Even if you plan to buy online, it’s worth visiting electronics stores’ exhibition halls beforehand to visually compare several models.

Refresh Rate

Why does the image appear clear on some TVs, while on others, moving camera silhouettes blur? This is due to the refresh rate (number of frames displayed per second). The standard range varies between 60-240 Hz. We recommend paying attention to TVs with a refresh rate of +/- 120 Hz. This is the optimal option in terms of price/quality ratio. Another important point: if you often play games on a console, get a TV with a higher refresh rate. A small amount of Hz during gameplay will be noticeably detrimental.
