Nizina Grape – a frost-resistant table grape variety with a "cherry" flavor

Nizina grapevines grow to medium height, and practically all shoots often bear fruit and are considered bushy. Considering that several clusters form on each shoot, the variety belongs to the high-yielding category. With minimal care (or none at all), you can harvest about 6 kg of grapes from a single bush. The plant begins to bear fruit on the 2nd–3rd year after planting in medium-acidity soil. From the start of vegetation to full ripening, it takes only 4.5 months. The variety can hardly be called early, as harvesting can only occur at the end of August.

Grape Characteristics

Nizina Grape is known for:

• relative frost resistance (can withstand temperatures down to 23 degrees below zero). In colder regions, there is no need to heavily cover the root system; light mulching is sufficient;
• good disease resistance. Spraying should be done at the gardener’s discretion and only as a preventive measure, and infections by diseases such as gray mold and mildew are quite rare;
• the fact that bees, wasps, and hornets will not eat ripe berries, so there is no need to worry about spoilage of sweet grapes;
• large berry shapes (oval or round) and weight up to 11 g;
• excellent transportability, as the dense skin allows storing ripe clusters almost until the end of the year;
• juiciness, sweet taste, and impressive fleshiness;
• resistance to cracking, which indicates that the berries maintain their external characteristics even after heavy rains at the end of summer;
• hermaphroditic flowers;
• use exclusively for table purposes, as the variety is not suitable for wine production;
• absence of seeds that interfere with tasting.

Nevertheless, it is important to remember that the bush spreads and requires a large area without shading for full growth and fruiting. Proper care is also an essential process that allows obtaining a good harvest. This includes periodic pruning of excess shoots and clusters, as without these procedures, the grapes will be small. Some tasters note the presence of a "cherry" flavor in the berries, which may seem unusual and not appeal to everyone. Important: during growth, the plant must be watered and fertilized abundantly, as it does not tolerate drought well and may significantly weaken on hot days.
