Faxon fir (Abies faxoniana) is a species of coniferous tree in the Pinaceae family. Known for its distinct conical shape and resilience in high-altitude environments, this species is a significant member of the fir genus. Native to the mountainous regions of Western China, specifically across Sichuan and Gansu provinces, the tree thrives in cool, high-elevation climates. It naturally populates subalpine zones, where it is subjected to heavy snowfall and persistent cold winters. In cultivation, it requires conditions that mimic its natural habitat to achieve optimal growth rates and structural health.

Botanically, Faxon fir is characterized by its dark green, needle-like leaves featuring two white stomatal bands on the underside. The tree's bark transitions from smooth to scaly as it matures, and its cones, which stand upright on branches, display a striking purplish hue before maturing into brown. These features contribute to its popularity as an ornamental specimen in temperate landscaping.

For successful cultivation, Faxon fir requires moist, well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. It is intolerant of waterlogged sites, so selecting a planting spot with good drainage is critical.
