Instead, the plant features photosynthetic, wing-like stem outgrowths known as phyllodes, which provide the plant with a striking zig-zag appearance.
The species is endemic to Western Australia, where it thrives in well-drained soils and Mediterranean climates. Its natural range includes scrublands and woodland understories. This evolutionary adaptation allows the plant to survive in nutrient-poor soils and withstand periods of low rainfall, making it an excellent candidate for xeriscaping in similar climatic zones.
Botanically, this evergreen shrub typically grows between 0.5 and 2 meters in height. Its branches are remarkably thin and serrated, creating the "winged" effect that gives the species its common name.
