White thorn acacia (lat. Acacia polyacantha) is a significant woody species belonging to the Fabaceae family. Originating from the African savanna regions, this species has successfully naturalized in various agroecological zones. It is highly valued for its adaptability, performing well in areas where other species struggle due to seasonal drought or poor nutrient status in the topsoil. It typically grows in open woodlands and wooded grasslands.

Botanically, it is a deciduous tree that can reach heights of up to 25 meters. Its name refers to the numerous sharp thorns located on the branches and trunk. Irrigation is only necessary during the initial establishment phase, after which the plant becomes exceptionally drought-tolerant and requires minimal maintenance interventions.
