Acaena magellanica

Acaena magellanica is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Rosaceae family. It is recognized as a trailing subshrub that forms dense, evergreen to semi-evergreen carpets. In horticultural practice, it is highly valued for its ground-covering properties and its ability to establish quickly in open spaces, providing a lush, textured layer of foliage.

Native to the subantarctic regions of South America, including the Falkland Islands and Tierra del Fuego, this plant is well-adapted to harsh environments. The plant prefers full sun to partial shade, but it is sensitive to waterlogged conditions, which can lead to root damage. Agronomic maintenance primarily involves weeding during the initial establishment period and ensuring adequate soil drainage to prevent fungal issues.
