It is well-adapted to extreme environmental conditions, effectively storing water within its succulent tissues to survive prolonged droughts.
The native range of this species spans the high-altitude deserts and rocky slopes of northern Mexico and the southwestern United States (Arizona and New Mexico). Because it originates from areas with significant temperature fluctuations, Agave parryi exhibits a remarkable level of cold hardiness, making it one of the most resilient agave species suitable for cultivation in varied climatic zones.
Successful cultivation requires soil that is extremely well-draining; rocky or gravelly substrates are ideal. Heavy, water-retaining soils must be avoided as they significantly increase the risk of root rot.
