Hollyhock hybrid (Alcea hybrids) is a prominent ornamental crop belonging to the Malvaceae family. The origins of hollyhock hybrids trace back to the domestication of wild Alcea species in the Mediterranean and Southwestern Asia. Today, they are cultivated globally in temperate regions. Their ability to thrive in various climates makes them popular in everything from cottage-style gardens in Europe to modern landscaped parks in North America, where they are favored for their vertical stature and long blooming season.
Botanically, these plants are usually biennial or short-lived perennials. They develop a sturdy taproot and a thick, hairy stem that can reach heights of up to 2.5 meters.
