Alpine lady's mantle (lat. Alchemilla alpigena) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Rosaceae family. This species is widely recognized for its robust nature and its role as an excellent ground cover in mountain-inspired landscapes. It naturally forms dense mats that thrive in conditions that would be challenging for more delicate garden plants.
The plant originates from the mountainous regions of Europe, where it has evolved to survive in alpine and subalpine environments. Its natural habitat consists of rocky slopes and thin, gravelly soils, which explains its remarkable resilience. This adaptation makes it an ideal candidate for rock gardens and areas where soil quality is poor and drainage is a primary concern.
Botanically, Alchemilla alpigena is distinguished by its palmately lobed leaves, which feature a distinct silvery pubescence on the underside. This shimmering appearance is a hallmark of the species.
