Candlenut, scientifically known as Aleurites moluccanus, is a significant evergreen tree belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family. It is widely recognized for its seeds, which are rich in high-quality oil used extensively in industrial applications. The tree typically grows to a considerable height, featuring dense foliage and distinctive, lobed leaves that provide significant shade in its natural tropical habitat.

The origin of this species traces back to the tropical regions of Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. Today, it has established a presence in various tropical and subtropical zones across the globe, including parts of South America and Africa. It is intolerant of frost, which limits its commercial cultivation to frost-free regions. Propagation is primarily through seeds, though orchard management involves regular pruning to maintain tree height for easier harvesting and to improve the exposure of the canopy to sunlight for maximum fruit production.
