The native distribution of this species spans the Iberian Peninsula and parts of North Africa. It thrives in open, rocky habitats, limestone outcrops, and Mediterranean scrublands. Its evolution in these environments has resulted in a life cycle that prioritizes spring growth followed by a dormant summer period, allowing it to avoid the intense heat and drought typical of its natural range.

Botanically, Allium baeticum features linear, narrow leaves that emerge from the bulb in early spring. The inflorescence consists of a tall, upright stem topped with an umbel of star-shaped flowers, usually exhibiting shades of purple or pink. The bulb is typically coated with protective tunics that help regulate moisture loss and provide resilience against temperature fluctuations.

Agronomic requirements are centered on soil structure and drainage. For successful cultivation, the soil must be light, well-draining, and rich in grit or sand. Excessive moisture, especially during dormancy, is detrimental and will cause bulb decay. The plant requires full sun exposure for the majority of the day to ensure proper flower development and bulb maturation for the next season.
