Native to the eastern regions of Australia, particularly New South Wales, the plant thrives in heathlands and rocky alpine slopes. Botanically, Allocasuarina nana is defined by its cladodes — jointed, photosynthetic branches that serve as needles. The true leaves are greatly reduced to tiny scales arranged in whorls around the nodes.
