Armenian mallow (lat. Althaea armeniaca) is a herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the Malvaceae family. It is recognized as a significant agricultural crop primarily for its medicinal properties, sharing botanical characteristics with other members of the Althaea genus while possessing a distinct resilience to arid environments.
The native range of this species spans from Southeastern Europe through the Caucasus to Central Asia. Naturally occurring in river valleys and saline meadows, the plant has evolved to withstand challenging soil conditions, making it a robust candidate for cultivation in various temperate agricultural zones.
Botanically, the plant features an erect, pubescent stem reaching up to 1 meter in height, accompanied by palmately lobed leaves. The flowers are typically pale pink, appearing in terminal racemes.
