Agricultural management involves strict water control measures, pre-sowing soil cultivation, and, when necessary, the application of selective herbicides to prevent the plant from competing with primary crops for sunlight and soil nutrients.
Economic utility is generally low, as the plant is primarily regarded as a weed that requires management in agricultural settings. Typical pests and diseases include root-rot fungi and various phytophagous insects. Despite its status as a weed, its presence can serve as a biological indicator of soil saturation levels and water quality within irrigation-based agricultural systems.
