Conolly's sand acacia (Ammodendron conollyi) is a perennial shrub or small tree belonging to the Fabaceae family. It is a critical species for desert ecosystems, specifically adapted to thrive in harsh sandy environments where water availability is extremely limited throughout the year.
The plant is native to the sandy deserts of Central Asia. Its distribution is primarily determined by its ability to act as an edifier, creating stable conditions in regions where wind-blown sand poses a major challenge for plant growth and land use. It thrives in open, sunny, and arid locations.
Botanically, this acacia is characterized by its silver-pubescent foliage, which serves as a thermal insulation mechanism against extreme heat.
