The species is endemic to Australia. It is primarily found in coastal forests and woodlands, where it shows a high degree of host specificity, typically parasitizing trees of the Casuarina genus. The plant's dispersal relies heavily on specialized birds that consume its berries and deposit the seeds onto host branches, allowing the mistletoe to establish its parasitic root system.
