Aphyllanthes monspeliensis

Aphyllanthes monspeliensis, commonly known as the rush lily or blue lily grass, is a unique perennial herb belonging to the Asparagaceae family. This distinct plant is easily recognized by its rush-like, leafless green stems, which give it a stark and minimalist appearance, making it stand out from traditional herbaceous garden plants.

The plant is native to the Mediterranean region, ranging from Spain and France to Italy. It naturally inhabits dry, sunny, and rocky landscapes, thriving in environments where other species struggle due to nutrient-poor soils and high temperatures. This evolutionary history makes it an ideal candidate for low-maintenance, drought-resistant landscapes.

Botanically, the plant grows in dense clumps of stiff, wiry stems that typically reach 20–30 cm in height.
