Woolly-leaved thrift

Armeria eriophylla, commonly known as woolly-leaved thrift, is a perennial herb belonging to the family Plumbaginaceae. This plant is highly regarded in horticulture for its dense, cushion-forming habit and its ability to thrive in harsh environments where many other species would struggle to survive.

The native distribution of this species is primarily centered in the Iberian Peninsula. Adapted to the rocky and impoverished soils of these regions, the plant has evolved to become exceptionally drought-tolerant and resilient to high solar radiation, making it a perfect choice for Mediterranean-style gardens and dry landscaping.

Botanically, the plant is characterized by its linear, woolly-textured leaves that form compact rosettes. These leaves often have a distinct greyish or silver cast. During the flowering period, it produces tall stalks topped with spherical clusters of small, delicate flowers, which are typically shades of soft pink or lavender, adding a graceful element to the landscape.

Regarding cultivation, Armeria eriophylla requires full sun exposure and gritty, well-drained soil.
