Description

Astragalus adsurgens, commonly known as standing milkvetch, is a perennial legume species belonging to the Fabaceae family. This crop is highly valued for its extreme hardiness, excellent drought tolerance, and the ability to thrive in challenging environments where other forage legumes might struggle to establish.

The plant is native to the steppe and forest-steppe regions of Siberia, the Far East, and parts of North America. Due to its wide ecological range, Astragalus adsurgens has been introduced in various temperate regions as a reliable, long-lived forage crop suitable for cold-climate agriculture and degraded land restoration projects.

Botanically, it features a deep, robust taproot system and semi-erect stems that can grow up to 80 cm in height.
