Bent milkvetch (lat. Astragalus inflexus) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the diverse legume family (Fabaceae). This species is recognized for its ecological importance and its potential utility in agricultural systems focused on soil stabilization and nitrogen enrichment of poor-quality soils.
The plant originates from the arid and semi-arid regions of North America, particularly in Western parts of the United States. It has evolved to thrive in environments characterized by limited precipitation and high solar radiation, making it an excellent candidate for drought-prone regions where agricultural diversification is needed.
Botanically, Astragalus inflexus is characterized by dense trichomes covering its stems and leaves, which serve as an adaptation to minimize water loss. The plant develops a deep taproot system, enabling it to access moisture from subsurface soil horizons.
