The natural distribution of this species spans across Europe and Western Asia. The crack willow is primarily found along riverbanks, lakesides, and in damp meadows where the soil remains consistently moist. Botanically, the crack willow is characterized by its large, spreading crown and can reach heights of up to 20 meters.
