In cultivation, it is primarily grown for its striking foliage, which serves as a centerpiece in indoor environments and conservatories.

The botanical structure of this species consists of a subterranean tuber from which arise several petiolate, arrow-shaped leaves. The foliage is noted for its distinctively variegated pattern, featuring translucent white or silvery spots against a deep green background. Being one of the smaller members of the genus, it is preferred for its compact habit, rarely exceeding 30 centimeters in total height.

Environmental requirements for Caladium humboldtii are strict due to its tropical origin. The crop thrives in warm, humid conditions with temperatures ideally between +22 °C and +26 °C. It is sensitive to sudden drops in temperature and cold drafts, which can cause the plant to enter its dormancy phase prematurely. High ambient humidity is crucial for maintaining leaf health and preventing tissue desiccation.
