Floating marsh marigold (lat. Caltha natans) is a perennial aquatic herbaceous plant belonging to the Ranunculaceae family. Unlike its better-known relatives, this species has evolved to thrive in aquatic environments, often found floating on the water surface or anchored to the substrate in shallow marshes, ponds, and slow-moving streams.

The natural range of this species extends across the temperate and boreal regions of the Northern Hemisphere, including parts of North America, Siberia, and Northern Europe. The plant is primarily found in freshwater habitats, where it plays a functional role in the local aquatic ecosystem by providing shelter and biological filtration.

Botanically, the plant is characterized by creeping stems that allow it to sprawl or float depending on the water depth. Its leaves are typically kidney-shaped or rounded, supported by elongated petioles. A distinct feature is its small white to pale yellow flowers, which bloom during the summer months, contrasting with the more familiar, bright yellow varieties of the genus.

When grown in artificial water features, it is best suited for shallow margins or shallow containers submerged at a depth of 10–30 cm.
