Cretan bellflower

The Cretan bellflower (lat. Campanula cretica) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Campanulaceae family. It is an endemic species primarily native to the rocky terrains of Crete, Greece. Due to its elegant growth habit and delicate purple-blue blooms, it has become a sought-after ornamental crop for rock gardens and Mediterranean-style landscapes.

Botanically, the plant is characterized by a basal rosette of serrated leaves and slender, upright flower stems. The flowers are distinctively campanulate (bell-shaped), adding a sophisticated aesthetic to any garden setting during their peak flowering period. Its evolutionary adaptation to the harsh, nutrient-poor soils of its native habitat allows it to thrive in specific conditions that other garden varieties might find challenging.
