Lachenal's sedge

Lachenal's sedge (Carex lachenalii) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Cyperaceae family. It is recognized in agronomy as a critical forage species for natural rangelands in arctic and alpine environments, where environmental conditions limit the growth of standard pasture grasses.

The plant originates from the circumpolar regions of the Northern Hemisphere, thriving in the tundra, marshes, and high mountain meadows. Its distribution range spans across North America, Europe, and Asia, where it acts as a stabilizing species for saturated and cold soil conditions.
