The plant originates from the tropical and subtropical regions of Southeast Asia. Its distribution is closely linked to environments that experience frequent flooding or remain permanently marshy. It is frequently found in open, sunny locations near streams, ponds, and sometimes in traditional agricultural infrastructure like abandoned paddy fields, where the unique soil moisture level provides an ideal microclimate.

Botanically, Centrolepis asiatica is characterized by its tufted, grass-like growth habit. The plant consists of very thin, delicate stems and narrow, basal leaves, forming dense mats that help bind the loose, wet substrate. Regarding its requirements, this species is extremely sensitive to water availability. It demands consistently wet soil and is intolerant to prolonged drought or significant variations in water quality. Cultivation efforts, though rare, focus on mimicking natural wetland conditions. The soil must be rich in organic matter, and the water level should be maintained at or slightly above the soil surface throughout the growth cycle.

In terms of practical use, the plant is primarily appreciated in scientific research and, to a lesser extent, in specialized landscape architecture for naturalizing artificial wetlands. It is not currently threatened by widespread agricultural pests; however, the main risks to its population include pollution and the loss of habitat due to drainage projects.
