Centrosema plumierii

Centrosema plumierii is a perennial climbing legume belonging to the Fabaceae family. As a vigorous, trailing, or twining vine, it is highly regarded in tropical agriculture for its ability to produce substantial vegetative biomass and its role in sustainable ecosystem management.

Its root system is deep and well-developed, characterized by the presence of nitrogen-fixing nodules that contribute significantly to soil fertility improvement through the conversion of atmospheric nitrogen.

Regarding cultivation, Centrosema plumierii thrives in humid tropical climates and exhibits high tolerance to various soil types, including acidic and low-fertility soils. Its agronomy is relatively straightforward: seeds are typically sown in well-drained beds, and the plant requires minimal maintenance once established, as it quickly forms a thick canopy that suppresses weed growth.
