Syrian cephalaria (Cephalaria syriaca) is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Dipsacaceae family. In agronomy, it is a complex subject, often categorized as a significant agricultural weed that infests cereal crops, particularly winter wheat, while simultaneously being recognized for its potential as a secondary industrial oil crop.
The plant originates from the Mediterranean region, Western Asia, and the Middle East. It is widely distributed in arid and semi-arid climates, thriving in open, sunny environments. Due to its evolutionary adaptation to harsh environments, it has successfully colonized vast agricultural lands, demonstrating impressive survival traits even in nutrient-poor soils.
