Southern Palo Verde (lat. Cercidium australe) is a woody plant species belonging to the family Fabaceae. Known for its ability to thrive in extremely arid environments, this tree is a classic example of an adaptive desert plant, often recognized by its smooth, green, photosynthetic bark.

The native range of this species covers the arid regions of South America, primarily within Argentina and parts of Bolivia. It grows in habitats characterized by low rainfall and high heat, making it an essential component of the xerophytic vegetation in its home range, where it acts as a primary producer in dry ecosystems.
