Narrow-leaf goosefoot (lat. Chenopodium leptophyllum) is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Amaranthaceae family, formerly classified within the Chenopodiaceae family. It is a close relative of crops such as common lamb's quarters and quinoa, possessing similar biological adaptations to challenging environmental conditions.

The species is native to North America, where it is widely distributed in prairies and arid zones. Currently, the culture's range covers significant territories from Canada to Mexico, where the plant has adapted to life in conditions of limited moisture and saline soils, acting as a potential grain or forage crop.

Botanically, the plant is an erect stem reaching 60–80 cm in height with characteristic narrow, linear leaves covered in a mealy, powdery substance. The inflorescences are compact, paniculate, and contain a large number of small seeds that are nutritionally similar to other members of the Chenopodium genus, being rich in proteins and micronutrients.

The crop has low soil fertility requirements, demonstrating high resistance to drought and alkaline soil pH. Cultivation techniques include planting in warmed soil and minimal maintenance, consisting primarily of weed control during the early growth stages. The plant tolerates temperature fluctuations between day and night well, making it a promising candidate for cultivation in regions with unpredictable agricultural conditions.
