Delavay's meadow-rue

Delavay's meadow-rue (Thalictrum delavayi Franch.) is a herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the Ranunculaceae family. It is highly esteemed in horticulture for its fern-like foliage and spectacular sprays of lavender-violet flowers that emerge in mid-summer, creating a delicate, airy appearance in the garden.

Originating from the mountain regions of China, specifically Yunnan province, this species is well-adapted to cooler, temperate climates. Its natural habitat includes moist, shaded meadows and woodland margins, which dictates its specific needs when introduced into managed agricultural or ornamental landscapes.

Botanically, the plant develops an upright habit, reaching heights of 1 to 1.5 meters. The foliage is complex and bipinnate, providing a graceful texture. The inflorescences are large, loose panicles consisting of numerous small flowers characterized by prominent yellow stamens that contrast beautifully with the petals.
