Cibirhiza dhofarensis is a rare species of caudex-forming plant belonging to the Apocynaceae family. It is endemic to the Dhofar region of southern Oman, known for its unique botanical adaptation to arid mountain environments. The plant is highly valued by botanists and specialized collectors for its distinct evolutionary characteristics and rarity in nature.

The plant's natural range is strictly confined to the limestone cliffs and rocky slopes of the Dhofar mountains. Its survival strategy is deeply linked to the monsoon climate of the region, where seasonal fogs provide the essential moisture required for growth. Due to its limited geographical distribution, it is rarely found outside its native habitat except in specialized research or private collections.

Botanically, it is characterized by a significant, fleshy caudex that serves as a reservoir for water and nutrients, allowing the plant to survive extended periods of drought. From this base, thin, climbing stems emerge, adorned with relatively simple leaves. The flowers exhibit the complex morphology typical of the Asclepiadoideae subfamily, specifically adapted for specialized insect pollination within its native ecosystem.

In terms of cultivation, Cibirhiza dhofarensis requires a growing medium with extreme drainage, typically composed of inorganic materials such as pumice, grit, and sand. It is highly intolerant of waterlogged soil, which rapidly leads to rot in the caudex. Light requirements include bright, indirect sunlight, and the climate must be kept warm, as the plant is sensitive to cold stress and freezing temperatures.

While not a traditional agricultural crop, the species is cultivated primarily for its ornamental and scientific value. Major challenges in keeping this plant include preventing fungal infections through strict moisture management and protecting it from common succulent pests like mealybugs and spider mites. Proper air circulation and a distinct dormant period are essential components for maintaining healthy specimens in greenhouse conditions.
