The Rockrose hybrid (Cistus hybrids) refers to a versatile group of evergreen shrubs belonging to the Cistaceae family. These plants, derived from Mediterranean species, are renowned for their ability to thrive in challenging, infertile soils and withstand prolonged droughts. They have become staple plants in xeriscaping and sustainable horticulture due to their robustness and minimal water requirements.

Originating from the Mediterranean basin, these hybrids have evolved in climates with hot, arid summers and mild, wet winters. Their range of cultivation has expanded globally into temperate regions with well-drained conditions. These plants are true xerophytes, naturally adapted to environments where moisture is limited and sunlight exposure is extreme throughout the growing season.

Botanically, these shrubs display dense growth habits, typically reaching heights of 0.5 to 1.5 meters. Their leaves are often textured, leathery, and coated with a resinous substance known as labdanum, which serves as a natural defense against moisture loss and herbivory. Cultivation requirements necessitate high light exposure and superior drainage. Rockrose hybrids fail in heavy, compacted, or waterlogged soils, which quickly lead to root rot. Ideally, the planting site should feature sandy or rocky loam with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. While they are relatively low-maintenance, light pruning after the flowering period is recommended to prevent the plant from becoming excessively woody and leggy.

In economic and landscape use, these plants are highly valued for erosion control on slopes and as focal points in Mediterranean-style gardens. Beyond aesthetics, the resinous secretions are historically used in fragrance production. Major health challenges for the culture include:
