Coast myall

Coast myall (Acacia binervia) is an evergreen tree or large shrub belonging to the Fabaceae family. Native to the eastern regions of Australia, this species is highly regarded for its resilience and its role in ecological restoration, often forming a significant part of the woodland canopy in its natural habitat.

The geographic distribution of this species spans the coastal and range areas of New South Wales and Victoria. It thrives in temperate environments where it is protected from harsh frost. The tree is known for its structural density, which makes it an excellent choice for windbreaks and screening in large landscape projects.

Botanically, Acacia binervia is characterized by its flattened phyllodes that exhibit distinct longitudinal veins. The flowering period typically results in a display of bright yellow rod-like spikes, which are aesthetically pleasing and attractive to pollinators. The plant typically reaches heights of 6–15 meters depending on local soil conditions and water availability.

From an agronomical perspective, the species prefers well-drained soil and full sun exposure. It is drought-tolerant once established, requiring minimal irrigation. As a legume, it contributes significantly to soil health through nitrogen fixation, making it an excellent candidate for environmental regeneration projects where low-maintenance vegetation is required.
