Codariocalyx motorius, widely known as the telegraph plant or dancing plant, is a fascinating species belonging to the Fabaceae family. It has gained international recognition for the rapid, autonomous movement of its leaflets, which oscillate in response to sound, light, and temperature changes. This plant is a subject of significant interest in both botanical research and the exotic plant trade.

Native to tropical regions of Asia, including India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, the plant thrives in hot, humid rainforest environments. In a cultivation context, it is predominantly grown in greenhouses or as a novelty indoor plant, as it cannot withstand frost or significant temperature drops. The species requires a stable environment to maintain its unique physiological functions.

The botanical structure of the plant consists of a central terminal leaflet and two smaller lateral leaflets. The movement of these lateral leaflets is powered by changes in turgor pressure at the base of the leaf stalks (pulvini).
