It thrives in high-moisture environments, such as wetlands, irrigation ditches, and, most notably, within flooded paddy fields. Its ability to tolerate saturated soils makes it a dominant species in hydric ecosystems.

The root system is highly adapted to low-oxygen environments, allowing the plant to anchor effectively in muddy or silty substrates found in marshes and water-logged agricultural zones.
