The origin of this species is traced to the basin of the Chari River in Central Africa. Today, it is commercially grown mainly in Southeast Asia, particularly in Vietnam and the Philippines. The trees are remarkably vigorous and can grow up to 20 meters tall in the wild, though they are kept shorter in plantation settings for efficiency.
