The species is valued both for its aesthetic appeal and for the presence of chemically significant alkaloids found within its tissues.

Its natural range is centered in the Caucasus region, where it typically inhabits mountain slopes and woodland edges. As a cultivated crop, Woronow's colchicum adapts well to temperate climates, provided that the soil conditions are suitable. Growers should focus on replicating its natural habitat requirements, particularly by ensuring excellent drainage to prevent the bulb from rotting during the dormancy phase.

Botanically, the plant develops a corm covered with brown tunics. During the autumn flowering phase, the blossoms emerge directly from the soil without foliage. Drainage is the most important factor in the agronomic management of this plant; therefore, sites prone to waterlogging must be avoided.
