Coleostephus multicaulis

Coleostephus multicaulis is an attractive annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. Often referred to in gardening as yellow chrysanthemum or golden daisy, it is highly valued for its prolific, vibrant yellow blooms that create a dense carpet of color during the growing season.

The plant originates from the Mediterranean region, particularly Northern Africa and parts of Southern Europe. Its natural habitat is characterized by dry, sunny conditions, which has shaped its physiological adaptation to prefer well-drained soils and high levels of solar radiation.

Botanically, it is a low-growing plant, typically reaching 15–30 cm in height, characterized by multi-branched stems and serrated, fleshy foliage. The flowers are daisy-like capitula that produce a brilliant yellow display from spring through summer, making it an excellent choice for seasonal borders.

Regarding agrotechnology, the species requires full sun exposure and sandy or loamy soils with excellent drainage. It is not demanding in terms of soil fertility, but it is extremely sensitive to waterlogged conditions, which often lead to root rot. The main use of this plant is ornamental, particularly for rock gardens, container gardening, and edging. Pests such as aphids and spider mites can occasionally affect the plant, particularly in sheltered or dry conditions.
