Comocladia dentata, commonly known in its native range as "guao", is a woody plant belonging to the Anacardiaceae family. This species shares a botanical lineage with commercially important crops like the mango and cashew, but it is primarily recognized for its potent toxic properties rather than agricultural output.

The species originates from the Caribbean region, with a significant presence in Cuba. It thrives in dry, rocky, or limestone-rich soils, reflecting its adaptation to tropical environments with distinct wet and dry seasons. It is rarely cultivated for production and is typically found in its natural habitat or specialized botanical gardens.

Botanically, the plant is characterized by its serrated (toothed) leaflets, which give it the specific epithet dentata. It produces a milky sap that turns black upon exposure to air, containing urushiol-like compounds that cause severe contact dermatitis. The plant structure is shrubby or tree-like, depending on the environmental conditions and maturity.

Agricultural requirements for Comocladia dentata are minimal as it is not a standard crop. However, in controlled collections, it requires well-draining, calcareous soil and high light intensity.
