The origin of this species is traced to the arid regions of South Africa, specifically the succulent Karoo. In this native habitat, Conophytum minimum thrives in rocky crevices and poor soils, demonstrating remarkable tolerance to extreme fluctuations in temperature and prolonged water scarcity. Botanically, the plant is characterized by a distinct dormant period. During the dry season, the outer leaf pair shrivels to form a protective papery sheath.
