The species is characterized by its specific reproductive structure, featuring a solitary follicle that develops a distinctively wrinkled texture, which gives the plant its scientific name.

The origin of Consolida rugulosa is traced back to the arid and semi-arid regions of Central and Western Asia. In these natural habitats, the plant has evolved to survive in steppe environments, thriving in open spaces with high solar radiation.
