Native to the tropical regions of South America, particularly Venezuela, Brazil, and Colombia, the tree thrives in high-humidity rainforest environments. It requires a climate with consistent warmth and abundant rainfall, making it a specialized crop for tropical agricultural zones where frost is completely absent.

Botanically, the tree exhibits a robust structure, often reaching heights of up to 30 meters. It features pinnate leaves and small, white or greenish flowers arranged in panicles.
